HELLO & WELCOME
We created Derwent Walker because we wanted somewhere in Keswick that felt relaxed, welcoming and just a little bit different.
For us, going out has always been about more than simply having something to eat. It is about good food, great drinks, good music and spending time with the people you love. We have always enjoyed ordering lots of different dishes for the table, trying something new, sharing cocktails and making an evening out feel like an occasion and that is exactly the atmosphere we wanted to create here.
Our menu is designed to be enjoyed your way. You can share a selection of smaller dishes, choose something larger for yourself, or simply order whatever takes your fancy. Alongside the food, our bar is a huge part of Derwent Walker, with cocktails, wines, beers, spirits and plenty of alcohol-free choices too.
Most importantly, we want you to feel comfortable here.
Whether you are joining us for dinner, cocktails with friends, a date night, a celebration or simply stopping by while visiting Keswick, we want Derwent Walker to be somewhere you can relax, enjoy yourself and stay a little longer than you originally planned.
We are incredibly proud to have created an independent restaurant in our hometown and even prouder of the people who continue to walk through our doors.

We’re open six days a week, Tuesday to Sunday, with Mondays closed. Whether you’re joining us for a relaxed meal, drinks with friends or making an evening of it, Derwent Walker is all about good food, great cocktails and enjoying time around the table. Our menu brings together English-style tapas, small plates and larger dishes, giving you the freedom to order exactly how you fancy. Share a selection across the table, choose a larger dish for yourself, or mix and match a little of everything. We keep things relaxed, full of flavour and reasonably priced, so Derwent Walker can be enjoyed whether it’s a spontaneous evening out or a special occasion.
Cocktails Like No Other
Bold flavours - Bespoke blends - Cocktails created to be remembered as Cocktails are a huge part of what we do. Our drinks are created by our mixologist, Sam, using infused spirits, homemade syrups and carefully chosen flavour combinations to put our own Derwent Walker twist on both original creations and much-loved classics. We like our cocktails to be a little different, full of flavour, beautifully presented and, most importantly, really enjoyable to drink. Bookings We want everyone visiting Derwent Walker to have the best possible experience, so there are a few things to know when planning your visit.
No Groups from June to October
During our busiest months, we can only accommodate evening bookings of up to 6 guests.

Dogs🐾
We love our four-legged visitors too. Dogs aren't permitted in our upstairs restaurant, but they are very welcome in our downstairs bar area. We look forward to welcoming you to Derwent Walker.
A Little History of the Cocktail
Cocktails have been bringing people together for more than 200 years.
One of the earliest known written definitions of a “cocktail” appeared in America in 1806, describing a drink made from spirits, sugar, water and bitters. From those simple beginnings came an entirely new way of drinking — one built around flavour, balance and creativity.
By the mid-1800s, bartenders were becoming increasingly inventive, experimenting with spirits, liqueurs, bitters and other ingredients. In 1862, pioneering bartender Jerry Thomas published his famous Bar-Tender’s Guide, helping to establish cocktail-making as a craft in its own right.
Cocktails gained another chapter in their story during American Prohibition in the 1920s and early 1930s. Hidden speakeasies became part of the culture of the era, while bartenders mixed spirits with sweeter and more flavourful ingredients — sometimes to disguise the harsh taste of poor-quality bootleg alcohol.
Thankfully, cocktail making today is about something very different.
It has become a celebration of flavour, imagination and personality.
And that is exactly what we love about cocktails at Derwent Walker.
Our talented team are encouraged to use their own palates, ideas and creativity when developing new drinks. Rather than simply following a recipe book, they experiment with different flavours, infused spirits, homemade syrups and unusual combinations until they create something they genuinely love.
Each cocktail therefore has a little personality of its own — often inspired by the individual who created it.
Some are sweet, some sharp, some refreshing and some a little unexpected, but they all have the same purpose:
to entertain your taste buds and give you something memorable to drink.
For us, a cocktail shouldn’t simply look impressive.
It should make you take that first sip and think, “Wow… I wasn’t expecting that.”
